Sign-In Failure Handling

Hi Brandon Rudisel, I believe I have solved this issue now! Rather than introduce an email functionality, I believe I have identified what was causing this issue to occur on your machine. I basically added some resiliency/retry logic to the app, and I think that should prevent this from continuing to happen. I believe the app was suffering some occasional transient outages in a 3rd party service it uses, so this should mitigate this issue going forward!
However, if the problem persists, we can revisit the email functionality that you mentioned. Thanks!

Brandon Rudisel Another update:
I checked my backend, and things look like they are supposed to. I don't think my authentication system is kicking you out, so I'm wondering if perhaps a popup is appearing. See my previous comment for more details.
How often would you say this happens?

Hi Brandon,
Sorry for the wait on my end! Although it's a bit after the fact, I hope you had a Merry Christmas, too! : ) thank you!
Could you tell me a little more about the sign in error you are seeing? Are you left on the login screen itself, and Displagent doesn't even get past the login screen, or do you get into the app and see an error somewhere in there?
Also, do you see any popups appear anywhere? And do you by chance have any screenshots?

Daniel Miradakis:
Here's a screenshot. It seems to happen when the displays are left unattended to for long enough. It's a transient issue, so it may not have a simple cause or solution.
Hope that helps.
Happy new year,
Brandon

Brandon Rudisel: Thank you for the provided screenshot! I have a suspicion to what might be causing that, looking into it now! Do you ever have a popup that was waiting when this happened, that says something like "Your UserAccount or Organization was inactive..."?
B
Brandon Rudisel
Daniel Miradakis:
Not exactly.
When I find one of my displays like the above screenshot, if I enter my credentials from there, I get the below screenshot. When I close and relaunch Displagent I am able to log in without issue.
Daniel Miradakis
Brandon Rudisel: Hmmm that is odd... so you see that screen after you enter your credentials, and so you have to close the app entirely, restart it, and then your login works after that? Just want to make sure I am crystal clear.
I'm wondering if there was an issue with Auth0, the auth system provider that I use. I'll do some digging and see if I can find anything, but this might have been a transient issue in their system.
Could you also tell me how often this has happened to you? Is it pretty rare or a common annoyance?
B
Brandon Rudisel
Daniel Miradakis: Yep, that's correct.
It could also be hardware/network issues on my end. Again, transient.
I usually expect at least one or two of my five displays to have encountered this error when I log in on Monday mornings, if that gives you any idea as to how frequently this occurs. My machines are set up to reboot twice daily.
Daniel Miradakis
Brandon Rudisel: Oh wow, 2 machines every Monday morning? That's way more frequent than it should be, sounds like this is a persistent annoyance. Let me look into this a bit further.
At the very least, I should be able to setup an email alert like you requested to let you know of a machine that didn't log in correctly. To do that, I think I need to add machine names/tracking first, so you can designate a name to each machine and track each one easier. This is something that I've been wanting to do for a while anyways, so this would be a good opportunity to introduce that functionality.
Let me look into the error itself a little more, and if I can't find anything, I should be able to setup email alerts for you. Thanks for your patience on this and all of the background info!

Brandon Rudisel Hey Brandon, I wanted to check back in: is this issue still continuing for you? I'm hoping to finish my current big issue this weekend, and then I'd like to move to this one afterwards if it's still persisting.

Daniel Miradakis:
Hi Daniel,
This is still an issue. Sounds good!
